WHERE ARE THE EXECUTIVE COMPENSATION GIVEBACKS AT VERIZON?
By Business Agent Patrick Gibbons

Take a close look at the Verizon Communications 2007 Annual Report that was mailed to your home recently. Ivan Seidenberg’s total compensation for 2007 was $26,553,576.00, over $5 million dollars more than 2006. His “Non qualified Deferred Compensation” as of last year was $53,517,866.00.

While “Ivan the Terrible” and his greedy band of pigs are collecting obscene amounts of money, they are demanding massive givebacks at the bargaining table. They want to increase annual deductibles, institute co-pays on ALL services, increase out of pocket maximums, increase co-payments on prescriptions, increase the cost for out of network pharmacies, increase the costs for HMO’s, institute penalties for failing to pre-certify hospital visits, demand payments for emergency room visits, eliminate the MEP-PPO (185) plan, and totally eliminate medical benefits for anyone hired after 2008.

Did Ivan give back the extra $5 million he made last year? Did Dennis Strigl give back the extra $4 million he made last year? The answer is NO! They want to steal our benefits so they can fatten their wallets even more. What were these CEO’S rewarded for? For allowing a record number of  customers from leaving their landline business? For keeping our Union out of Verizon Wireless and Verizon Business, to prevent us from making those employees lives better?

These “Bell Heads” must have forgotten our motto, “They say giveback, we say fight back!” It will be a cold day in Hell when this proud Union agrees to givebacks. Every one of us needs to mobilize every workday from now until we achieve a fair contract. Keep in touch with our tape (212-633-6753) and our website (cwa1101.org). Ask your Stewards and Chief Steward what you can do to help in this fight, in your fight. The pigs were fed in Verizon, now it’s our turn to take home the bacon!
